SEE X-MEN: APOCALYPSE MAKING ANOTHER EPIC QUICKSILVER SEQUENCE - MOVIE

SEE X-MEN: APOCALYPSE MAKING ANOTHER EPIC QUICKSILVER SEQUENCE

Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past has a number of exceptional sequences, from Magneto lifting the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, to the final Sentinel attack in the future - but there is little argument that the king of them all was the prison breakout with Evan Peter's Quicksilver. Thankfully, this is a well that Singer will be returning to for X-Men: Apocalypse, as seen in the brand new set photo below:

Bryan Singer has posted his latest Instagram set photo from the making of X-Men: Apocalypse, and while at first glance it looks like this is just a scene with actors strung up in wires, the reality is that they're actually going to be frozen in time (at least from Quicksilver's perspective). It doesn't look like the speedy mutant is actually in this photo, but the caption confirms what's going on.

For those that either missed X-Men: Days of Future Past or simply forgot about the character, Peter Maximoff a.k.a. Quicksilver is the mutant son of Magneto and has the ability to run at extraordinary speeds. When he is at full sprint, the world around him appears to be frozen - though in actually they're just moving very slowly comparatively.

That Quicksilver sequence was filmed using a high-speed camera operating at 3,600 frames-per-second, and while the camera isn't featured in the new behind the scenes shot, it's pretty easy to speculate that Bryan Singer is using the same kind of equipment. What's kind of funny about this is that this sneak peek at a big Quicksilver moment is much less tease-y than the image Singer posted from the X-Men: Days of Future Past set.

X-Men: Apocalypse is now in production up in Montreal, and in addition to featuring the return of Evan Peter's Quicksilver in an important role, the feature has a stacked cast that includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ben Hardy, Lana Condor and Oscar Isaac. Look for it in theaters on May 27, 2016.

WHY JURASSIC WORLD'S DIRECTOR THINKS THE PREVIOUS SEQUELS DON'T WORK - MOVIE

WHY JURASSIC WORLD'S DIRECTOR THINKS THE PREVIOUS SEQUELS DON'T WORK

Beloved as Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park is, the first two sequels in the franchise don’t exactly get the same kind of respect. Upon their release, both The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III failed to inspire the same kind of awe and joy that their predecessor did – which goes a long way in explaining why it took so long to get a fourth chapter. Many people have different opinions on why these follow-ups failed to be as successful as the original, but Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow has a theory of his very own, which all has to do with the perception of what an island of dinosaurs actually means in the context of the story.

The filmmaker explained this theory to me this past weekend when I had the chance to sit down with him for a one-on-one interview during the Jurassic World press day in Los Angeles. I asked the director if there was were certain lessons learned from the previous sequels that were applied to his process making the upcoming blockbuster, and he explained to me why he believes that neither The Lost World: Jurassic Park nor Jurassic Park III live up to the modern classic they followed. Said Trevorrow,

"I felt like both of those movies had a disadvantage in their fundamental architecture, and that is that the first movie had a place that you could go to that was wondrous and magical and would bring you great joy - but surprise, you’re going to die. In those other movies, you’re going to a place that’s dangerous and you’re going to die, and sure enough, you do. So, you know, the equation was different in those two."

If you think about that theory for a second, you’ll come to realize that Jurassic World actually comes organically from this kind of thinking. Sure, audiences go into the movie knowing that shit is going to hit the fan and that catastrophe is going to occur, but that isn’t the case for the characters in the new movie. While Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm and Sam Neill’s Alan Grant were terrified of returning to dino island in The Lost World and Jurassic Park III, respectively, the individuals we follow to the fully functional theme park in the third sequel are a pair of kids (Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson) who aren’t fearing death, and are excited by the prospect of seeing real dinosaurs.

That being said, Colin Trevorrow admitted that this aspect of Jurassic World’s plot was actually already in place before he and co-screenwriter Derek Connolly took control of the writing process, and came directly from the proverbial godfather of the series. He explained,
We came in, that was already there; the idea to have the park be fully functional was already there. It was an idea of Steven [Spielberg]’s and he has great ideas.

Jurassic World arrives in theaters this Friday.

SUICIDE SQUAD MAY FEATURE COMMON AS THIS GREEN LANTERN VILLAIN - MOVIE NEWS

SUICIDE SQUAD MAY FEATURE COMMON AS THIS GREEN LANTERN VILLAIN

When Common was announced as being a part of the cast of David Ayer's Suicide Squad a couple months ago, a rumor began swirling around identifying him as playing the famed Aquaman villain known as Black Manta. Now that the character has been spotted on the set of the blockbuster, however, it appears as though those reports were false, and that he will actually be playing a completely different villain: Abel Tarrant a.k.a. The Tattooed Man.

Set photos from Suicide Squad popped up over at Just Jared, showing off Common's ink-covered look for the new movie. There hasn't been any official confirmation that he is indeed playing The Tattooed Man, though there are definitely big clues to suggest that the most recent speculation is correct. Part of it is the fact that the character from the comics has been associated with the titular team in the past, and the other part of it is that Common was spotted with a tattoo of a big snake on his head - which is Tarrant's most notable piece of body art:

First introduced in Green Lantern comics, Abel Tarrant was a burglar in the fictional Coast City, and during one particular job became exposed to some mysterious chemicals. This material allowed him to both mentally control the substance and form real objects with it. After the robbery, the winds up using the chemicals to scrawl tattoos on himself of various useful forms, which he then could conjure at will. When we meet him in Suicide Squad, he will already have his powers, and may be serving time in prison - possibly serving with the squad as a means to reduce his sentence.

DC Comics fans will be quick to note that this isn't the first time that Common has done some work with the company. The rapper/actor was actually originally cast to play the John Stewart version of Green Lantern in George Miller's Justice League: Mortal - though that project wound up falling apart. Given that the DC Cinematic Universe is still in need of an Emerald Knight, it's a shame that he wasn't considered - but it's still cool that he's getting in on the comic book action.

Suicide Squad is now in production up in Toronto, and Common is part of a large cast that also includes Jared Leto (The Joker) Adam Beach (Slipknot), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Karen Fukuhara (Katana), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Will Smith (Deadshot), Adawale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Jay Hernandez (El Diablo), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) and Scott Eastwood. BEHOLD, RILEY CURRY'S FASHION SENSE - FASHION

Behold, Riley Curry's fashion sense

Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry (30) talks to the media with his daughter Riley after their 104-90 win against the Houston Rockets for Game 5 of the NBA Western Conference finals at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif, on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. (Nhat V. Meyer/Bay Area News Group)
Riley Curry was wearing a Kira Kids yellow Banana Rama Baby Doll dress, which comes from a Bay Area-based organic kids cotton brand, at Game 1 of the NBA Finals Thursday.

You know, that game in Oakland, between her dad Steph Curry's Warriors and those meanie Cavaliers, who kept trying to keep Daddy from putting the ball in the big basket.

Riley is 2. And as you should know by now, she is so cute that the Internet freezes everytime someone thinks about her -- thanks to her father bringing her to the postgame interview room a couple times during the playoff. She makes faces, she admonishes her dad, she crawls under the table, and America loves it.

America is ... interesting.

In case you care, her daddy scored 26 points, had eight assists, four rebounds, and two steals, as his Warriors beat Cleveland in Game 1 108-100 in overtime.

By the way, a Kira Kids yellow Banana Rama Baby Doll dress costs $53 on the Internet. But you may have to wait to buy it until the Internet unfreezes.

Out: Chiellini (calf), Cáceres (ankle)
Doubtful: Barzagli (thigh)

Barcelona: Ter Stegen; Alves, Piqué, Mascherano, Alba; Rakitić, Busquets, Iniesta; Messi, Suárez, Neymar.
Out: none
Doubtful: none

Massimiliano Allegri, Juventus coach
We started the season with an important objective – to get to the quarter-finals. Now we've got to the final and we have to be winners. We need to take the last step; that's always hard, especially in a Champions League final.

Messi, Neymar, Suárez, it's the usual question since the semi-final – how do you stop them, how do you stop them? We need to be very skilled but we need to recognise we're not going to draw; we need to score. How do you stop Barcelona? We need to think how to score. We need to be strong technically because they're a technical team and attack is their best weapon so we need to be very, very aware of that.

We need to stay focused for 90 minutes, right until the end. We need to be mentally strong and turn things around because we're second favourites to Barcelona. It's a one-off match, no chance to play again, so we need to be fit. We are physically fine and the same goes for our mental strength. We need to be good against a great team but, like all teams, they do have faults and weaknesses.

Juventus: road to the final

One of the two teams will win a treble, either Juventus or Barcelona – hopefully us. We need to recognise this isn't easy. It's not easy to manage great teams, despite how it seems from the outside. Luis Enrique was a great manager at Roma; this is a new league and a new situation but even back then it was clear he was right in his ideas. My role as manager is trying to add value to a team who were already capable, improving them even more.

It should be a great game. As with all Champions League finals, we'll need some luck and we'll need to work for that.

We're very sorry for what happened to Chiellini but I guess it was meant to be. We lost a player who had been great for us from the start of the season. Barzagli and Ogbonna are both fit; if Barzagli feels OK he's going to play, otherwise it's Ogbonna.

Graham Hunter on Barça’s chances

It's important that we have an Italian team in the final. The last time was five years ago, in 2010 when Inter won. We can see the enthusiasm; most Italians are looking forward to seeing Juventus lift the cup. This is going to be something positive for our game.

Irrespective of the outcome, we've had an extraordinary season. Apart from the league title and the tenth Coppa Italia, which had been missing for 20 years, we have to consider the consolidation of the team in Europe, getting back among the top eight teams. That's important for building momentum.

Luis Enrique, Barcelona coach
[Getting better] is a normal process throughout a season, especially bearing in mind this is my first season in charge. The team is now where it wants to be – with two trophies and the possibility of a third. We're entering this game with great excitement and hopes of playing a great match so we can be better than our opponents.

Barcelona: road to the final

Midfield is where the game takes shape, whether that's attack or defence. We have to dominate both the offensive and the defensive side of things. We want to play our game – have the ball, create danger and minimise any opportunities for our opponents.

There is some euphoria among the fans and we're delighted to see that – that feeling has been there for several months. As players and coaches, we're focusing on this match with a great sense of seriousness and responsibility. We have to handle the occasion properly and make sure we have a good day so we can deal with such powerful opponents.

I imagine we'll have more possession, we hope to spend more time in their half. We'll have to play at a high level, it's going to be a difficult match. Juve have a very similar style to ours, they also need the ball. They're very good in defence, they're very resourceful and that's why they're in the same position as us – they can win the treble too. We know Juve will want and they're going to pressure us. Who will win depends on who adapts better to those situations.

Past champions honoured

We've scored lots of goals in the Champions League but we know finals are very different; there's a lot of tension so we'll have to block that out. The strikers have got all the headlines and that's natural. To be here today, having already won those two trophies in Spain, the players know you need a squad – we wouldn't have got here without our defenders too.

We have a unique set of players, a unique generation given the number of trophies Barcelona have won. I hope we see a great final, an open exciting game – that would be great for football, and the better side would win. This is going to be one of the best matches you can watch – the champions of Italy and Spain. It's going to be spectacular.

MAN PAID TO GET FRIEND'S WIFE PREGNANT FAILS AFTER 72 ATTEMPTS

Man paid to get friend's wife pregnant fails after 72 attempts

In Stuttgart, Germany, a court judge must decide on a case of honorable intentions in a situation where a man hired his neighbor to get his wife pregnant.

It seems that Demetrius Soupolos, 29, and his former beauty queen wife, Traute, wanted a child badly, but Demetrius was told by a doctor that he was sterile.

So, Soupolos, after calming his wife’s protests, hired his neighbor, Frank Maus, 34, to impregnate her. Since Maus was already married and the father of two children, plus looked very much like Soupolos to boot, the plan seemed good.

Soupolos paid Maus $2,500 for the job and for three evenings a week for the next six months, Maus tried desperately, a total of 72 different times, to impregnate Traute.

When his own wife objected, he explained, "I don’t like this any more than you. I’m simply doing it for the money. Try and understand."

When Traute failed to get pregnant after six months, however, Soupolos was not understanding and insisted that Maus have a medical examination, which he did.

The doctor’s announcement that Maus was also sterile shocked everyone except his wife, who was forced to confess that Maus was not the real father of their two children.

Now Soupolos is suing Maus for breach of contract in an effort to get his money back, but Maus refuses to give it up because he said he did not guarantee conception, but only that he would give an honest effort.

CAUSE OF GOIL FIRE REVEALED AS DEATH TOLL IN TWINS DISASTER HITS 200

Cause of Goil fire revealed as death toll in twin disaster hits 200

GNFS Deputy PRO Billy Anaglatey explained the cause of the disaster
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) says its preliminary investigations into the disastrous explosion at the GOIL fuel station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, indicates that valves that were not properly tightened caused the fuel to gush out.

This allowed the fuel to float on the surface of the flood water, and then came into contact with fire in a distance of about 100 meters from the station.

The explosion thus occurred when the fire retraced the underground fuel tank with the loose-fitting valve where fuel was already gushing out.

The Deputy Public Relations Officer for the GNFS, Billy Anaglatey, revealed this to TV3's Bridget Otoo in an exclusive interview at the scene of the fire on Thursday.

“What actually might have initiated this whole fire situation at the Goil Filling Station is that, when it was raining, the people decided to take shelter there but the rain persisted. And as it was raining, the running water started rising and it was then that some of them detected the surface of the water was oily, but little did they know that it could result into fire.

“Our investigations continued and we realized that some of the valves were not properly closed so the running water was entering into the underground tank and because of density factor, it went under the fuel and pushed the fuel up. So the fuel was coming from the underground tank and the whole area was having the fuel on the surface of the running water. It is not all the fuel that comes out that was mixable with water; those that were not mixable with water, the compounds were just resting on the surface but it was a running water so it was able to move from the Goil Filling Station to over 100 meters, where it met a naked fire and traced it back to the filling station then the explosion happened".

Mr Anaglatey explained the cause of the disaster to TV3's Bridget Otoo

Mr. Billy Anaglatey further explained to TV3 why it was extremely difficult for most of the victims to escape.

“This type of fire is not a normal fire. Normal fire starts at a smaller stage, it then grows from maturity to decay level; so within these stages of the normal fire, you have an opportunity to escape if you see the fire in time. But with erratic or explosive fire of this nature, the moment the oil was on the surface of the water and then it picks any fire, it's going to run within the twinkling of an eye to the source of the fuel and it is going to be very erratic and rapid to explode. So with this type of fire, there is no way anybody would have an opportunity to get out of it and so that's why all of them were trapped in there and couldn't escape".

Death toll up

The Wednesday evening explosion that run deep into the dawn of Thursday, left in its wake a devastating havoc taking many lives and property, with the death toll now hitting 200.

Majority of the victims who were mostly stuck and burnt in their  commercial and private cars, were taking refuge from the rains under the GOIL shed when the fire started.

Others were reportedly buying fuel with some in the fuel station's mini-supermarket.

Some of the victims, injured and dead, were also occupants of buildings very close to the fuel station.

The situation was worsened by marauding floods that came into contact with fuel. Security personnel are still cleaning debris at the fuel station area, as well as other parts of Accra severely hit by the floods.

Several injured persons with severe burns are still receiving treatment at the 37 Military and Police Hospitals, with the death toll still expected to rise.

President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday declared three days of national mourning for victims of both the flood and the fire incident, but has announced some drastic measures in the  coming days to tackle the perennial floods.

FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION PRACTISED IN IRAN, STUDY REVELS - NEWS

Female genital mutilation practised in Iran, study reveals

First authoritative research shows FGM is carried out in four major provinces

A woman wearing a niqab in Iran’s Hormozgan province, which has the highest incidence of FGM in the country. Niqabs are only worn in southern provinces.
The first authoritative study into female genital mutilation in Iran has found the practice is being carried out in at least four major provinces while officials are silent on the matter.

According to research by social anthropologist Kameel Ahmady released on Thursday, FGM is more prevalent in the southern province of Hormozgan and its nearby islands (Qeshm and Hormuz) than in any other parts of the country.

It is also being practised to a lesser degree in Kurdistan, Kermanshah and West Azerbaijan provinces, which are situated in western Iran close to the Iraq border.

Ahmady’s research shows that FGM is mainly an issue concerning the Shafi’i sect of Sunni Muslim Iranians, a minority in the Shia-dominated country. Only a small fraction of the Shia population living in proximity of Sunni communities practise FGM.

“FGM is practised in Iran in some cases to tame girls’ sex drive before marriage; it is made to preserve their chastity,” said Ahmady. “The attitude of officials and authorities is that FGM doesn’t exist in Iran. The Iranian public is also largely ignorant about the subject.”

Ahmady first decided to focus on FGM in Iran when he was working with relief NGOs in Africa in early 2000s. Over the course of 10 years he has spoken to around 3,000 Iranian women who have experienced FGM in Iran, as well as 1,000 men. His research was published to coincide with the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, observed every year on 4 June.

“I returned to Iran in 2005 to study FGM in my home country and instantly I was shocked to discover that it even happened to the closest members of my own family and relatives,” he said. “In fact, many in Iran don’t have a clue that [FGM] is being practised in some parts of the country.”

FGM, which has affected millions of girls and women alive worldwide, predates Islam and Christianity and has been practised in many different cultures and societies, from Coptic and Catholic Christians in Eritrea and in Ethiopia, to Beta Israel society, Australian aboriginal tribes and some parts of the Middle East and Asia. It is usually performed on girls between the ages of four and 12 and can include partial or in extreme cases total removal of external parts of female genitalia.

In Iran, the practice, referred to as Khatne or Sonat, is usually carried out outside hospital without anaesthesia or prior consent by amateur midwives. The tools used include sharp razors.

Mehrangiz Kar, a leading Iranian human rights lawyer, said it was tragic that such mutilation was carried out by women. “It’s one of those instances where the violence against women is carried out by women in unhygienic circumstances,” she told the Guardian. “In areas where FGM exists, unfortunately it’s usually the mothers who insist that their daughters should be cut.”

In at least one extreme case which had involved stitching up after cutting, Kar said an Iranian mother refused to allow her daughter to have her stitches removed before marriage. “The daughter told me that she was afraid of marriage; she feared she would have pain during sexual intercourse.”

Although Ahmady’s research is unprecedented in its depth, other people have also studied FGM in Iran, including Fatemeh Karimi and Rayehe Mozafarian, who have both published books on the subject. Mozafarian said that the Iranian authorities had let activists research FGM in Iran and had allowed those books to be published.

“When people in Iran learned for the first time seven or eight years ago that women are being cut there, it was a cultural shock,” she said. “People didn’t believe that it was being practised.”

Mozafarian said she had reached out to the country’s vice president for women’s affairs, Shahindokht Molaverdi, who is considering her proposal for a nationwide campaign to end FGM. Iran’s penal code criminalises mutilation but does not specifically mention FGM.

Mozafarian warned that in some parts of Khuzestan province, home to many Arab Iranians, an extreme form of FGM known as infibulation, which involves the removal of the clitoris as well as the narrowing of the vaginal opening by creating a covering seal, is being practised.

Influenced by events in the neighbouring Kurdistan region of Iraq, which prohibited FGM in 2007, female circumcision is in decline in Iran’s Kurdistan but still goes on. Hormozgan is less affected by that change.

Not all Sunni Iranians practise FGM, such as those belonging to the Hanafi sect or those living in other provinces. In West Azerbaijan, FGM exists among Sunni Shafi’i Kurds of Sorani dialect but not among Sunni Shafie Kurds of Kermanji dialect, Ahmady’s report shows. In Iran’s Kurdistan, where prevalence of FGM is patchy, it is mainly seen in rural areas, some villages and communities but not usually in urban areas. Even in provinces where FGM exists, many communities do not practise it.

“The majority of women I spoke to who were circumcised defended FGM, saying that it is a tradition that had existed for hundreds of years,” said Ahmady. “Some Sunni mums even boasted that their daughters were more virtuous than the majority Shia girls because they were cut.”

Shia clerics also avoid interfering in what they see as a Sunni issue. The government, wary of inciting anti-Shia sentiment among the country’s Sunni minority, is also largely quiet. In Hormozgan, minimal traces of FGM is seen in Shia communities in some village, the report shows.

ACCRA FLOODS BURY OFFICES ALONG GRAPHIC ROAD - NEWS

Accra floods bury offices along Graphic road

Scores of companies along the Graphic road have almost and in some cases been submerged by floods that hit Accra this morning June 4th, 2015.

The torrential rains which started on Monday 1st June, 2015 has already claimed the lives of several people and destroyed properties worth millions of cedis.

The Graphic road, which is home to a number of automobile companies and other firms almost every year experiences the brunt of flood waters gushing through their offices.

Citi Business News’s Norvan Acquah Hayford who visited the area this morning reported that the story is no different this year.

Companies that were affected by Thursday’s floods include Pepsi, Rana motors Toyota, inesfly, GHOne, Zenith bank and Hassanco enterprise.

According to Board chairman of Inesfly Hayssam Fakry, whose premises has been taken over by the floods authorities must distill the odor river to avert the situation.

“it has been a disaster this time around, this is the first time we have all of our factory and offices flooded. I have experienced this kind of flood at least three or five times already and I can tell you that the problem has to do with the odor river which city authorities have failed to distill of dirt. The authority must ensure that gutters in our cities are clean to ensure that water can flow. The authorities know what to do and the odor river must cleaned otherwise it will happen again. People are dying and we know what to do.”

In 2011 the automobile industry alone in Ghana posted an estimated loss of over GH¢50 million due to floods that hit Accra and other parts of the country at the time.

USA COMPANIES EXPRESS INTEREST IN GHANA'S POWER SECTOR

USA companies express interest in Ghana’s power sector

Some companies in the United States of America (USA) have expressed interest in helping to solve Ghana’s power crisis.

The companies have already submitted proposals to the Ghana Embassy in the USA for consideration.

Speaking with the Daily Graphic in New York on the sidelines of the recent visit of the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, Ghana’s Ambassador to the USA, Lt General Henry Joseph Smith,  said the proposals were being looked at for the necessary action to be taken.

He said although the country was going through a number of challenges lately, the fact that there was peace and security in the country had attracted more people to the embassy to express their desire to invest in Ghana.

He said potential investors were aware that the government was working tirelessly to resolve the power crisis.

Potential investors

According to the ambassador, potential investors knew that Ghana had accepted to go on the democratic path and for 23 years that it had embraced democracy, the country had been peaceful, saying that “the investors have been assured that the government is working on short and long-term plans to resolve the issue before the end of the year”.

Lt General Smith said as a nation, Ghana had achieved so much and all Ghanaians had to be proud of that and support the government to move the country to another level of its development.

The ambassador said the United States Department of Commerce and Trade and Investment had planned to embark on a trade mission to eight African countries including Ghana.

Strategic Hub

Lt. General Smith indicated that the vision of the government was to make Ghana the strategic hub on the African continent, and the whole world had seen that President Mahama was fighting to ensure peace, stability, security and development.

He said during his chairmanship of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Mahama did not rest but made every effort to ensure peace and security.

He recalled that during the Ebola outbreak in some parts of the region, President John Mahama exhibited a great leadership role by visiting the affected countries to prove to the whole world that even with the disease, one could still visit the affected countries and be safe.

Pledge of support

He said the United States Chamber of Commerce had pledged its support to the Lordina Foundation to enable it to reach out to more deprived people in the country.

In a letter to the First Lady through the Ghana Ambassador to the United States, the chamber called on Ghanaians to be proud of the First Lady, Mrs Mahama, and support her in all her endeavours.

Lt General Smith commended the First Lady and her foundation for working so hard to make a difference in the life of the underprivileged in society.

PRESIDENT MAHAMA HAD SLEEPLESS NIGHT DUE TO ACCRA FLOODS– NDC man - NEWE

President Mahama had sleepless night due to Accra floods – NDC man

President Mahama has continually called for attitudinal change to curb flooding
A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has told TV3 that President John Dramani Mahama was awake throughout the night as a result of the torrential rains that resulted in flooding the capital city.

The six-hour downpour on Wednesday, June 3 left most roads in Accra not fordable while many houses were submerged. Property worth millions of Cedis was also lost.

No casualties have been recorded but a concomitant fire outbreak at the Goil Filling Station at Kwame Nkrumah Circle left dozens charred beyond recognition.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Thursday, Abraham Amaliba – a member of NDC’s legal team – lauded government’s quick response in deploying security personnel to help in ensuring sanity in town during the chaos that followed the rainfall.

“I am also told the president had been awake all night,” he said.

The perennial flooding in Accra has become a worry with many calling for an attitudinal change and an impression on government to put up facilities that will minimize the effect of the seasonal disaster.

NPP crisis: Together we shall rise again – Kwabena Agyepong

Under fire New Patriotic Party (NPP) general secretary Kwabena Agyepong is optimistic sanity will prevail in the party again, despite the turbulence the elephant family is going through.

Agyepong and the national chairman of the party Paul Afoko are under pressure to resign following the killing of the Upper East regional chairman of the party Adams Mahama.

Mahama was acid-attacked and died subsequently from the act a fortnight ago, a few days after an open confrontation with the two national executives. Agyepong and Afoko were ‘barred’ by the party’s internal security - the ‘Invisible’ - from reporting at the national headquarters.

The flagbearer of the NPP Nana Akufo-Addo called for a truce last week and directed the two embattled national executives to return to work.

Agyepong was spotted with Akufo-Addo at his office when the Winneba Youth Choir called on him.

Announcing the visit on his Facebook wall, Agyepong wrote: “Together we shall rise again” to accompany the photos.

In attendance were the former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen and the National Women's Organizer, Otiko Afisah Djaba.

TEACHERS TO BOYCOTT CLASSROOM OVER UNPAID SALARIES- NEWS

Teachers to boycott classroom over unpaid salaries

Newly trained teachers who were posted to various public schools between 2014/2015 are disquieted at the delay in the payment of their seven-month salary arrears, Today can report

Consequently, the distressed teachers who cannot hide their frustration any longer have indicated their intention to abandon the classrooms if the Ghana Education Service (GES) does not address the matter with a sense of urgency.

The intended strike, according to the angry teachers, would be aimed at resisting a unilateral decision by the GES to deduct “huge sums of money” from their monthly salary.

The teachers also found it difficult to understand why the District Education Officers of GES would decide to pay them GHC 2,800 instead of GHC 3,000 being three month salary of their 7-month salary arrears.

Some of the aggrieved teachers who agreed to speak to Today on condition of anonymity also complained about a ploy by officials of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) and GES to purposely frustrate them.

According to them, for almost seven months now, they have been receiving their pay-slips from CAGD, which situation indicates that their salaries are paid through their respective banks.

However, the teachers lamented that anytime they go to their banks to make withdrawals, they observe that their accounts have not been credited with their salaries.

"For the past seven months, we can state on authority that officials of the Controller and Accountant General's Department, Ghana Education Service and Ministry of Education have been deceiving us by sending us our pay-slips under the pretext that they have been paying our salaries through our bank accounts. But when we go to check at the banks, nothing is in our account to show that indeed our salaries are being paid through the banks.”

"...so what we want to know is where at all are our monthly salaries that officials of CAGD,GES and ministry of education claim they have been paying to ever since we were posted to our stations?, the angry teachers asked.

The teachers could also not fathom why CAGD delays in the payment of their monthly salary, since according to them, their names are on the payroll of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department.

They therefore expressed worry about the situation, lamenting that: “we find it very unfortunate why the Controller and Accountant General’s Department up till now cannot resolve our matter."

To this end, the teachers called on GES, ministry of education and CAGD to, as a matter of urgency, "sit up and resolve the matter else they would carry out their intended strike.”

It would be recalled that the Controller and Accountant General’s Department in October 2014 called on all those on government payroll system without bank account numbers to furnish the Department with their bank details or risk forfeiting their salaries.

However, CAGD in its defence attributed the delay in the payment to some errors with the account numbers of the teachers. . Speaking to Today, one of the aggrieved teachers noted that: “the District Education Directors of the GES assured us that by all means our seven month accumulated salaries will be paid by the end of May 2015 but we are in June and still counting.”

However, efforts by Today to seek clarification from officials of CAGD, ministry of education and GES proved futile.

Report on conditions of service of doctors ready today

The committee put together by the government to look into the conditions of service of public sector doctors is to present a report to the ministers of Health and Employment and Labour Relations in Accra today.

The committee, chaired by the President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr Kwabena Opoku-Adusei, will present its final report that will spell out the conditions under which doctors will work in the country.

Doc
tors and health practitioners in the public sector have been working for years without any conditions of service.

The only benefit they get from their work is a two week mortuary service when they die.

To ensure that doctors have conditions of service, the GMA, in 2014, gave a deadline of June 30, 2015 to the government to ensure that doctors in the public sector have a negotiated and signed conditions of service document.

At a news conference in Cape Coast last Sunday, the GMA reiterated its call on the government, threatening an industrial action in July if its members’ conditions of service were not negotiated and signed by the end of June.

It accused the government of failing to provide the terms and conditions of service, more than four months after the association had made the demand.

In a communique issued at the end of the 56th Annual General Conference of the GMA in Takoradi on November 9, 2014, the association had drawn the attention of the government to the fact that its members working with the Ministry of Health (Ghana Health Service/teaching hospitals) were without conditions of service.

A deadline of June 30, 2015 was given to the government to ensure that doctors in the public sector had a negotiated and signed conditions of service document.

The GMA, in that communiqué, had indicated that if, by the end of the deadline the conditions of service document was not secured, all the affected doctors would consider themselves unemployed.

In a press statement issued at the end of the second National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the GMA held in Ejisu in the Ashanti Region on March 20, 2015, the association indicated that it was going to adhere strictly to the June 30, 2015 deadline because the government had not taken any steps to resolve the issue of lack of conditions of service for its members, four months after serving the initial notice.

The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, had, on different occasions, assured the GMA that the government was working round the clock to address its concerns.

He'll Reward Your Faithfulness .

Friday, May 1st .

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome Phd.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58).

The Lord Jesus taught extensively on the importance of faithfulness.

In Luke 12:42-43, He said, "...Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing". When you faithfully carry out what God has instructed you to do, He promotes you and gives you additional responsibilities.

Daniel, because of his faithfulness, was preferred above all the other presidents and princes set by Darius over his kingdom (Daniel 6:1-4).

When the other presidents and princes connived and searched intently for an occasion against him, the Bible says, "...they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him" (Daniel 6:4). He was faithful in every aspect of his life - to God, the king, his work, and his people.

It makes no difference the challenges that you may encounter as you diligently serve the Lord; remain steadfast. Let nothing move you.

Imagine the calibre of people that rose against innocent Daniel: All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, princes, counsellors, and captains! They finally conspired to enact a decree to incriminate Daniel in his devotion to God (Daniel 6:7).

Nevertheless, Daniel was undaunted. He still prayed to the Lord five times a day, as was his custom.

Of course, this earned him the brutal punishment of being cast into the lions' den, but God shut the mouths of the lions and Daniel was taken out of the den alive! Your faith in the Lord and your faithfulness to Him will always make you triumphant.

In your service to the Lord, remain diligent and focused.

Never think that your service in the house of God is of no value or in vain. Don't look to man for any form of reward. Even when it's as though no one appreciates what you're doing, always remember that your heavenly Father sees all you do, and He rewards your faithfulness.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the privilege to serve you and fulfill the destiny that you've created for me! I'm steadfast, unmoveable, and undaunted by circumstances as I diligently serve you, putting my whole life into your work, because I know that my labour isn't in vain, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

In reaction, the Head of Public Affairs of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Earl Ankrah said the demand for better service conditions must be justified with a plan for increased productivity.

ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY, SPARE MAHAMA– DUMELO TELL CRITICS - NEWS

Celebrated screen icon and TV personality Mr Dumelo John has urged critics of President John Dramani Mahama to get off his back and give him time to solve the numerous challenges that have bedevilled the country.

Speaking to Perp news on Wednesday on Thursday, Dumelo who campaigned for President Mahama ahead of the 2012 elections said the President needs help and not criticism to solve the challenges in the country.

“We should just give him [Mahama] time to solve the problems, the problems are there but it's four years, Rome wasn’t built in a day… and if after 2016 the problems are not solved then we know what to do.

“But I think a lot of people are putting pressure on him and it’s not as if he doesn’t want to solve the problems, he does so we should just give him time”.

NEV FURIOUS AT CHELSEA CRITICS - SPORTS

Nev furious at Chelsea critics

Gary Neville says the critics should get stuck into Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United before accusing Chelsea of being boring.
Perp was speaking after watching Jose Mourinho’s side beat Leicester 3-1 this Wednesday evening to move within one victory of the Premier League title.
The away fans sarcastically chanted “boring, boring Chelsea” in response to the Arsenal supporters who criticised the team during Sunday’s 0-0 draw at the Emirates – and Neville insists the chasing pack deserve far more negative press for their “pathetic” challenge to Chelsea’s superiority.
“I don’t get it at all,” he told Perp media' Gary Neville Podcast.
“If we’re criticising anybody it should be the pathetic attempt at chasing them this season and putting up a fight.
“I have to say Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have got to do so much better next season. The last team that we should be criticising are Chelsea. They are the ones that have gone on and done the job.
“They have extended their lead tonight, they are by far in front and they have been by far the best team this season. They haven’t lost a game since New Year’s Day.
“It’s the other teams that should really be criticised. This Chelsea team have done everything you ask of what will be the champion team.”
Chelsea have scored 68 Premier League goals this season and Neville does not feel they are as impressive as the side that won back-to-back titles in Mourinho’s first spell in charge.
He announced the Chelsea boss will have to sign more players this summer, but the other big Premier League teams have much harder work to do to close the gap.
Neville added: “If you ask Jose Mourinho he’d say they are a little bit behind what they were back in 2005 and that team that he had, but you still get the feeling it is a growing team and a team that will get better.
“It needs additions again in the summer, but the other teams, make no mistake about it, are the teams with the catching up to do.
“They have got to try to make up that 10 or 15 points that they are going to be behind.
“All teams are looking at the same players. Chelsea have recruited well over the last two years and have been smart.
“Jose Mourinho has won the league three times in five and he is the man to beat. Chelsea are the team to beat and the others have got to chase them down and hunt them down.”

Your Blood-bought Inheritance .

Thursday, April 30th .
Pastor Chris

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue (2 Peter 1:3).

When we talk about salvation, some people don't understand it; it's a big word. It encapsulates all the wonderful blessings resulting from the redemptive work of Christ: salvation, healing and divine health, success, freedom, liberty, preservation, etc.; they've all been paid for! They're yours now to enjoy! All the good things of life are all in the salvation package; the glorious life is your heritage. Prosperity with peace is your birthright.

Read the opening verse again; it says His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness. That's not a promise; it's a statement of fact, expressing what God has already done. In Christ Jesus, He's given you everything that you require for the transcendent life; they're all inside you. Christ in you is the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27), and Christ is everything.

Therefore, you're forever set up for the triumphant life. In Christ, you have it made; all things are yours (1 Corinthians 3:21)! This is what makes Christianity so awe-inspiring; the life that God has given you is the divine life, and everything you'll ever require to live joyfully and triumphantly, came with that life.

Remember this: Jesus shed His blood for you, being the only sinless one qualified to save us by His blood. Since He's already done it, all you need do is enjoy the benefits associated with His vicarious sacrifice. You have legal rights to possess everything salvation in Christ brings, for they're your blood-bought inheritance in Him: "In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will" (Ephesians 1:11).

CONFESSION

Christ lives in me; therefore, I'm made for life! His divine power has given me everything I require to live joyfully and victoriously every day! Success, prosperity, divine health, promotions and the glorious life are my blood-bought inheritance, and vital experience in Christ Jesus! I have a goodly heritage. Halleluiah.

REAL MADRID TRANSFER BAN ANNOUNCED, DE GEA STAYS AT MAN UNITED - SPORTS

Real Madrid transfer ban announced, De Gea stays at Manchester United, panic set in at club

Several Spanish media outlets have announced that Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are both set to receive transfer bans similar to what Barcelona are currently serving. Following the Barcelona case, FIFA expanded their investigation to include other Spanish clubs and whilst neither of the Madrid clubs were thought to be quite as in breach of FIFA rules it may not escape them from a ban.

Spanish newspaper Marca cover that both Cadena Ser and Cope claimed on Tuesday evening that a ban similar to Barcelona's was on the way and that would lead to some kind of panic at Real Madrid. The club would not be able to register players.

It doesn't seem abundantly clear when a ban would start with Marca's English website saying this summer and Marca's Spanish website and today's copy of their newspaper saying in January. The newspaper story was several pages in which wouldn't suggest the panic one would expect, but it's the main story on their website so perhaps came in a bit late to be given the full page treatment.

If the ban starts in the summer window then Real Madrid can't sign David De Gea until it finishes, regardless of what the goalkeeper and club want. If it starts in January then Marca reckon it will encourage Real Madrid to try and get a transfer for the goalkeeper done now and it's claimed steps are being taken along that route. Barcelona had perhaps had too much confidence in their appeals being accepted but that won't be the case for Real Madrid, having seen what happened with their rival. An appeal may be harder to justify given that CAS have already gone through the merits of FIFA's stance.

It'll be interesting to see how this develops, there's every possibility the Spanish media are going too far with their claims of an impending ban. For Manchester Untied it'll be crucial to know when, if it does happen, a ban starts.

WASSCE student defecates at Exams Hall - After Invigilator Turned down request to visit the washroom

Ashanti Region, Kumasi.
The premises of Mpasatia Senior High School(SHS) was a scene of chaos and confusion on Monday morning after some angry residents stormed the school to resister their displeasure at reports that a teacher had refused to allow a final year student to attend to nature's call, resulting in the said student defecating on himself.

The candidate in the ongoing West Africa Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) was reportedly compelled to ease on himself in the examination hall, whilst the examination was in session last week, after an invigilator, who is also a tutor of the school, refused to allow the

having trouble with his stomach, pleaded with the invigilator to allow him to attend to nature's call. But the tutor perceived the request by the student as a trick to cheat, and so denied the request.

For over thirty minutes, the poor student was said to be wriggling in pain and eventually had to give in, easing on himself in the process. After this unpleasant incident, the student was reportedly said to have been compelled by the police officer on duty to clean the faeces, before

residents, who felt embarrassed by the incident, were said to have besieged the premises of the school, disrupting academic activities.

They were reported to have seized offices and classrooms, demanding the identity of the said invigilator, who they claim had brought shame not only to the student but also to the entire community.

In a monitored report on a local radio station, calm was only said to have been restored after the DCE for the Atwima Mponua District, Mrs. Theresa Adomako Tawiah, arrived at the scene with a team of police officers.

Meanwhile, the DCE, through the advice of the District Security Council (DISEC) recommended that academic activities be put on hold and the students asked to go home until further notice.

At the time of filing this report, both members of the District Security Council, the Parents Teachers Association of the School and school authorities were in serious meeting to help resolve the impasse to enable peace to prevail  at the school

He Lives In You .

Wednesday, April 29th .
Pastor Chris

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service (Romans 12:1).

Why does God require us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice? It's because He lives in your body. Your body is the temple of God; that's where He lives: "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" (1 Corinthians 3:16). If your body isn't presented to Him, He can't use it and the temple that He doesn't live in is an ordinary building; it's empty and void of glory.

Now, God is everywhere, but His manifested presence isn't everywhere. Just like electricity; when there's electrical power in a building, it doesn't function everywhere in the building. The electrical appliances won't function just because they're in the building; they'll have to be plugged into the power source. In the same vein, your physical body has to be yielded or submitted to God for Him to "perambulate" in you, as it were. This is the idea Paul gives us in 2 Corinthians 6:16; it says, "...for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them...."

"Walk" in the underlined phrase is the Greek word "emperipateo", which means "to perambulate"; to walk up and down the bounds of a property in a supervisory manner. God, through the Holy Spirit, perambulates in your body to keep it perfect against intruders, such as sickness, disease and infirmities; that's part of His work and ministry in your life, so give Him the liberty. Be yielded to Him to minister in you.

God needs you; He wants to talk through you, look through your eyes, walk in, and through you, and bless the world through you. He needs your body. He wants yielded vessels. The more you're yielded to Him, the more He'll be revealed in you. Let Him work through you, and carry out His divine plans through you.

CONFESSION

Every fibre of my being is fully yielded to the Lord to carry out His divine plans through me! I'm His living tabernacle! He talks through me, moves through me, and expresses His love and righteousness through me! My spirit, soul, and body are sanctified for His sacred use, and His glory is revealed more and more in me today and always, in Jesus' Name.

Further Study: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. ;

John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES
TUESDAY, APRIL 28TH, 2015.
PASTOR CHRIS

TITLE: HE IS THE RESURRECTION!

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live (John 11:25).

The beautiful story of Lazarus' death, and how Jesus raised him back to life remains evergreen and so inspiring. Prior to Lazarus' demise, Jesus had said that he wasn't going to die, but he died. When Jesus eventually got to Bethany, four days later, Martha came to Him and said, "...Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died" (John 11:21).

A short while later, Mary came and said exactly the same thing. But then, Jesus said something so extraordinary! He said, "...I am the resurrection, and the life..." (John 11:25).

You'd have to be God to make such a claim; and blessed be God, Jesus is! He didn't say, "I have the power of resurrection", which would have been wonderful enough.

Who are we dealing with here? Who's this man? If they wondered that He walked on water, that's nothing compared to this statement. He's the resurrection, not the "resurrector".

Let's look at the picture briefly: here's Mary and her sister, and they said, "Master, if you'd been here four days ago, our brother wouldn't have died". The Jews corroborated their statement, and some of them said, "This man who opened blind eyes, and made the lame walk, could have cured Lazarus if He had been here in time, couldn't He?" (John 11:37).

That's all they thought about Him; a "healing Christ"; they knew Him as the healer; but Jesus blew their minds! He said, "I am the resurrection and the life". This is authority!
Now, He's given us His authority. He said in Luke 10:19, "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy..."; including death, hell and the grave! So, if there's someone you've been praying for, to be saved, and then the person dies and goes to hell, you say, "No way! We're bringing you out of hell, in the Name of Jesus!

Come back!" Jesus has authority in hell. If there's been persistent troubles in your business or something that belongs to you, use your authority in the Name of Jesus to call it back to life.

Nothing is ever too late or too critical for you to "resurrect", because you function in the authority of Jesus; you're seated together with Him in the place of dominion, authority, and power! Walk in, and with His resurrection power today, and always.

CONFESSION
My life is characterized with the demonstration of Christ's resurrected power! There's life in my body! There's life in my family! There's life in my job! There's life in my business and in every area of my life! I live triumphantly in, and by the power of His resurrection! Glory to God!

Your Inheritance In Him .

Wednesday, February 25th .
Pastor Chris

And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified (Acts 20:32).

The Word of God is able to deliver an inheritance to you. This is why study and meditation on the Word is of utmost importance to the believer. Colossians 1:12-13 says, "Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son".

God has qualified you to be a partaker of the inheritance of the saints in light, so you see, there's an inheritance for you in Christ Jesus. You couldn't qualify for it by yourself, but He qualified you by Christ Jesus, for a glorious heritage. Something else to note is that He delivered you from the power of darkness, and translated you into the Kingdom of His dear Son.

Darkness represents evil powers, demons, devils and their works. But He delivered you from them all; He didn't say it'll happen if you prayed hard enough; He's already done it. All He expects of you is to respond to His Word, and walk in the blessings of all He's done for you in Christ.

The Bible says through knowledge - revelation knowledge - shall the just be delivered into their inheritance (Proverbs 11:9). As you study and meditate on the Word, not only will you discover your inheritance in Christ, you'll also be able to relate with, and enjoy, all that God has made available to you in Him. Live in your inheritance in Christ. Celebrate it.

Celebrating your inheritance and all that Christ has done for you is one way of silencing the devil. As you give thanks to God for the things He's done for you in Christ Jesus: your salvation, divine health, prosperity, peace, and His life in you, you're celebrating your inheritance in Him.

CONFESSION

I'm a child of God, and a joint heir with Christ. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places, and I have a goodly heritage. I'm conscious of my glorious heritage in Christ, and through meditation on the Word, and fellowship with the Spirit, I get to know more and enjoy my inheritance in Christ. Halleluiah!

Further Study: Psalm 16:5-6 NIV LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. 6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. ;

Romans 8:16-17 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
